An fara aikin farko na AOU a watan Oktoba 2002 a rassa uku: Kuwait, Lebanon da Jordan. An bude rassa a Bahrain, Egypt da Saudi Arabia a 2003. An bude rassa a Oman a watan Fabrairun 2008 da kuma Sudan a watan Satumban 2013. A watan Mayu 2015, AOU ya sanya hannu kan yarjejeniyar buɗe sabon reshe a Falasdin tare da Ma'aikatar Kula da Ilimi ta Falasɗin. Sai dai kash, a cikin ƙasar Qatar ma'aikatar harkokin waje da kuma ma'aikatar ilimi da ilimi mafi girma sun ƙi tabbatar da digiri na AOU kuma basu yarda da jami'ar ba.
